I have been “spring cleaning” as you do during the festive season, and culling my wardrobe and shoe collection. During this process, I found some old South African notes, circa 1982. This money belonged to my late granny, Audrey Roman, and she kept two of each monetary denomination, in rather pristine condition, I might add.
Now for those who don’t know about the history of South Africa or how it came to be that Jan van Riebeeck used to appear on our money, click here for more information.
Anyway, the point of this blog post is in celebration that Tata Mandela is out of hospital, and recovering at his Houghton home in Johannesburg, or so the public are being told, and also to celebrate the fact that South Africa has new monetary currency reflecting Tata Nelson Mandela’s image.
It is not everyday that a country gets new currency, so this is very historic for South Africans.
Absolutely awesome collection!
Thanks!
